frequently asked Questions

Before first use, we recommend washing silicone products with detergent and warm water, sterilizing them in boiling water or putting them in the dishwasher. In this way, you can be sure that residues left on the product during production have been removed and that the product is safe, clean and ready for use.

Daily care is exactly the same - you can wash the products by hand or put them in the dishwasher. We recommend using dishwashing detergents that do not contain fragrances - this way you avoid the smell sticking to the product and also save nature.

Silicone is a durable, universal and practical non-toxic material that is increasingly used both in children's products and in products used in the kitchen, for example. It is a sustainable and safe alternative to plastic, protecting both us and our planet. All silicone products offered by Nordluv are strictly controlled for quality food-grade silicone and have FDA and/or LFGB certification and CE mark. The materials in our silicone products are BPA, PVC, latex, lead and phthalate free.

Silicone has countless practical properties - it is shatterproof, withstands both high (220 °C) and low (-40 °C) temperatures, silicone products can mostly be used in the microwave oven and washed in the dishwasher. However, it is worth keeping sharp objects and strong chemicals that can damage the product away from silicone.

We cooperate only with the most reliable and high-quality brands and factories with long-term experience in the design, development and production of these product classes. Since we source many of the products sold in our store directly from the manufacturer without intermediaries, we also shorten the supply chain. And the best thing - we have found new friends and like-minded people to grow with!

Although silicone is a practical and valuable material in every way, one of the properties of silicone is that it is sensitive to the color and smell of food with stronger pigments, and water stains may remain on the product as a result of hard water. In general, when drying by hand, water stains disappear, but especially with hard/iron water, it may not be so easy.

If this should happen, there is no need to panic - after several experiments, we have found the following solutions:

★ Boil water and pour two cups of hot water and one cup of vinegar into a container. Put the product in this mixture, go and drink a refreshing coffee, for example, and after about half an hour take the product out and rinse with warm water and detergent. Then dry the product properly. In this way, all water stains caused by hard water and other dirt should magically disappear from the product!

★ 3% hydrogen peroxide is also a valuable helper in removing unwanted stains, colors and odors.

★ Mix 1 tbsp vinegar + 2 tbsp baking soda and apply this paste on the product and let it stand for a few hours. Clean with warm water and detergent and dry the product properly.

Since the final stage of production may be finished and cleaned with silicone surface materials, before the first use the product should be boiled and washed with warm water and dishwashing detergent - so you can be sure that the product is ready for use. Also, standing in a closed package can give the product a smell - the smell disappears after a few days when you take it out of the package. The delicate smell characteristic of silicone does not pose any health risk and is not harmful.

All the options given in the previous point are also good helpers for getting rid of odors.

It is worth noting that we definitely recommend using perfume-free dishwashing tablets and products in the dishwasher - since the dishwashing cycle is significantly longer than normal hand washing, it may happen that the stronger-smelling product adheres to a small extent to the dishes washed in the machine. Odorless detergents are better for both users and the environment!
